- a lot of straight stretches with mostly large radius curves
- very scenic
- not much change in elevation
- follows close to the water most of the way after first 18 km
- lots of water access
- many creeks
- lots of places to pitch a tent, with many close to waters edge
- pavement is in fairly good condition, but there are some frost heaves
- very, very little traffic (saw about 10 vehicles in 130 km on way back)
- no services (gas or food) along Hwy 23, but there are a couple of resorts (one along the way, and one past Mica Dam)
- Mica Dam is about 154 km from Revelstoke, and the pavement ends just beyond that
